Top Priority
The residents of the district will always be my top priority. If you would like to discuss an issue or need help with county services, I will always be happy to do so. I will work to make sure any district resident who needs county services receives them in a timely and efficient manner.
Challenging Times
We are at a pivotal moment in history. Coming out of the pandemic things are still unsettled and the future uncertain – with little margin for error. Too many people are being left behind. However, while our challenges are substantial, we have opportunity for positive change. We need policy that moves us all forward towards a brighter future. Fiscal responsibility and prudent policymaking are paramount; we cannot afford to veer off course as we’ve seen elsewhere. What we need is a government the operates efficiently and effectively, one that not only addresses existing challenges but also anticipates and prevents new ones from arising. I’d like to see us move ahead with resolve, innovative solutions and collaboration.
Approach
County Board Supervisor is a non-partisan office and I will approach it that way. We’ve seen too much polarization in our politics in too many places. Extreme polarization leads to dysfunction. Civility, with a respect for others, even those you disagree with, is an important aspect of good governance in my view. Be critical of ideas, not the person. On contentious issues I will look for ways to turn the temperature down and keep focus on finding the best solution to the problem. I will look for common ground and finding consensus where possible, while still adhering to my core principles.
1 - Fiscal Responsibility
County Government services are mandated by state statute. The core responsibilities of county services should be the focus, not finding ways to expand department roles. County services are vital to the community and should be funded adequately. However, they should remain within their proper scope, be efficient, effective and at the lowest possible cost to taxpayers.
2 - Keeping Taxes Low and Reasonable
It should be a given that people know how to spend money for themselves better and more efficiently than the government. Making sure needed services are sufficiently funded is important, but we should keep as much money in the hands of taxpayers as possible. The government is not an end in itself. The government is there to serve the people. After funding what is necessary, tax dollars should be returned to the people.
3 - Supporting Law Enforcement
Law enforcement plays a vital role in protecting and maintaining order in our society. In recent years, law enforcement has come under a universal ideologically driven attack by extremists and their political allies, including calls for defunding. This has made an incredibly difficult job even more so. Review and reform where needed – everyone’s constitutional rights must be protected – but law enforcement needs the support of the community to do their jobs effectively without fear of unreasonable consequence for actions taken while in performance of their job.
4 - Supporting Strong Families
Strong Families are an indispensable institution and a cornerstone of our society. They provide stability and are crucial to success in life. They are the primary instrument of moral instruction and general education in children’s lives. A strong family offers a better chance for children to be resilient, successful, and avoid poverty, violence and drug addiction. Parents are best able to determine what is appropriate for their children and their families. It is important they maintain that right.
